Leamington Rugby Union
Football club
 |
The
present Leamington RUFC was founded in 1926, although a previous
town club, Leamington
Rovers, was known to exist as early as the 1880's. Records from
newspapers at that time indicate that the Leamington Rovers was
one of the leading clubs in the Midlands. Matches were played
- and won - against such well known sides as Leicester, Nottingham
and Northampton, Leamington RUFC is striving to return to that
level.
Since 1926 progressive development has instigated the relocation
of the club on a number of occasions before settling at its fine
freehold
complex on the Kenilworth Road in 1970. |
For a long time Leamington Rugby Club had been one of the
highest placed South Warwickshire Clubs in the Courage Leagues. However,
following relegation in consecutive seasons, we have finally consolidated
and ended last season in a mid table position. The club is now re-committed
to regain our previous league status.
High standards of facilities have enabled the club to attract
quality players, administrators and supporters. In consequence, the club
boasts a strong fixture list in South Warwickshire which has been further
improved by the introduction of leagues. The club has made four appearances
in the final of the Warwickshire Cup, winning once in 1992. We are recognised
as a leading junior club in Warwickshire.
Hall of Fame - Country
and County representatives.
