Leamington Rugby Union Football Club Mini and Junior Section
Founded over seventy years ago, Leamington RUFC is one of the senior rugby clubs in Warwickshire playing in Midlands Division Three West (South). Leamington regularly fields four senior teams on Saturday afternoons. Sunday is dedicated to Youth Rugby.
Here at Leamington you will find a thriving Junior and Mini section of over two hundred young people playing and enjoying the game of Rugby Union. This is made possible by the enthusiasm of our Junior and Mini rugby coaches and the support and facilities of the Senior club. Sunday morning coaching of young players began during the 1970/71 season and was inagurated in 1972. Our first Festival of Mini Rugby was in 1973.
The mini's from under 9 to under 12 go on Rugby Tour over a weekend in March every year with the under 7's and under 8's joining them on the Sunday. The Juniors also tour within the U.K. and Europe.
Players join us from the age of six. They remain playing on Sundays, Mini, Midi and Junior rugby until they reach the under seventeen age group, at which time they join with our Colts. Seventeen is the age of transfer from Junior to Senior rugby.
All our age groups are coached by RFU qualified coaches. During the summer, more of our coaches will have attained qualification to the RFU Level 1 and Level 2 Coaching Awards. The quality of coaches must be maintained to ensure improvement of the skills, enjoyment of the game and most importantly the safety of players at all levels.
At Leamington our objective is for everyone - player, coach, parent to enjoy the playing and social aspects of the club, combining the best attributes of fair play.
